Exploring the City with Megan

Megan came out to San Francisco a couple of weeks ago to visit and see the sights. After living in the bay area for a little bit now, you don't always realize that people are coming from all over the world to ride the cable car out your front door. We had an awesome time wandering around fisherman's wharf feeding the pigeons and seagulls and exploring the odd food in China Town.

That place is like a whole nother country by itself. But after Megan convinced me to buy some random fruit, Lychee is quickly becoming one of my favorite snacks. I surprised her on Friday night with tickets to Cirque du Soleil Totem in town.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect going into one of these shows having never been but my mind was blown. The set, the performance and most of all the athletes (ya, freak athletes) were amazing. All in all, an awesome weekend in the city. Not having mountains around isn't too bad when you've got the right company for other adventures.

Mt. Tam

The Powell/Mason Cable Car goes past my new apartment every 8 minutes.  It starts at 6:00 AM and climbs back up the hill for the last time at 1:00 AM.  I’ve already gotten used to the jackhammer-esque ambiance it brings to my bedroom buts its still nice to get away for some peace and quiet now and then.  Last weekend Brett, John and I took off to do a quick trail run up Mt. Tamalpais just north of Sausalito.

The trail up was a little steeper than we had planned so our trail run gradually turned into a brisk hike.  From above the clouds rolling in from the ocean it felt a little like I was back on Mt. Hood looking over Hood River Meadows.

Although it was nice to get out of the city and see some stuff that was actually colored green, the entire hike was a little tainted by the snack shack just beneath the top…  California for ya.

Bridge to Bridge 12K

The giant bagel lathered in strawberry cream cheese and chugging a vitamin water did not sit that well in my stomach come mile 6.5 on last weekend's 12K run through San Francisco.  Other than wanting to puke the last half of the race, the run was awesome with some sweet sights along the way.  Brett joined me bright and early down by the Embarcadero Center to kick off the run that skirted the water along Fisherman's Wharf, Fort Mason, Crissy Fields, the Golden Gate Bridge and finishing at the parade grounds in the Presidio.
